Paspatur Old Town

Fethiye's atmospheric old quarter of narrow lanes, carpet shops, and tea gardens

Paspatur is the old bazaar quarter of Fethiye — a tangle of narrow pedestrian lanes lined with carpet shops, antique dealers, jewellers, and tea gardens. It is touristy but not unpleasant, and the buildings have more character than the modern centre. The carpet dealers will invite you in for tea and a sales pitch — accepting the tea does not oblige you to buy, and the experience is part of the fun.

The old town merges into the harbour area and the fish market. It is best in the late afternoon when the heat eases and the shopkeepers come alive. On Tuesday mornings the weekly street market fills the adjacent streets with produce, spices, textiles, leather goods, and counterfeit designer clothes — it is one of the largest markets on the coast and worth seeing even if you buy nothing.
