Istanbul has an enormous range of public transport — tram, metro, commuter rail, funicular, and an extensive ferry network. The Istanbulkart is the one card that works on all of them and is far cheaper than single tickets; buy one at any major station or ferry terminal. Taxis are plentiful but always insist on the meter (taximeter). Night rates are higher. Dolmuş — shared minibuses running fixed routes — are cheap and direct once you work out which one goes where.
