Saigon Central Mosque

1935 mosque at the heart of Saigon's small South Asian Muslim community

The Saigon Central Mosque on Dong Du Street is one of the few mosques in Ho Chi Minh City and serves the city's small Indian and Malay Muslim community. The current building dates from 1935 and was built by the Indian Muslim community on the site of an older mosque from 1885. It is an active place of worship, calm and well-maintained, with a pleasant courtyard.

Visitors are welcome outside prayer times; dress modestly. The mosque sits a short walk from Dong Khoi Street, in the middle of the tourist district, and is worth a quiet few minutes as a contrast to the surrounding commercial chaos. The Indian Muslim community that built it was established in Saigon during the French colonial period and remains a small but distinct part of the city's cultural fabric.
