Phu Quoc is a large island — about 50 km from north to south — and public transport is minimal outside the main roads. The most practical options are motorbike rental (widely available from around $5–8 per day), taxis, and the Grab ride-hailing app which works on the island. Having your own transport is close to essential for reaching the national park, Sao Beach, or the east coast fishing villages.
A cable car connects the southern tip of the island (An Thoi) to Hon Thom island, a large resort complex offshore. At 7.9 km it is one of the longest cable cars in the world, though the destination is primarily a theme park.
Roads in the main tourist areas and between the airport and Duong Dong are good. Tracks into the national park and to some east coast beaches can be rough, especially after rain. The island is flat enough in most areas that cycling is feasible in cooler weather.
