Sao Beach (Bai Sao)

The most celebrated beach on Phu Quoc: a wide crescent of white powdery sand on the southeast coast, with calm, clear turquoise water backed by palm trees and forested hills. It consistently ranks among the best beaches in Southeast Asia, and on a quiet weekday morning it earns the accolade. The sand is fine and stays cool underfoot even in full sun.

Getting here from the main west coast resorts takes 45 minutes to an hour by motorbike or taxi — enough to thin out the crowds compared to Long Beach. A handful of beach bars and restaurants operate on the sand; the seafood is fresh and reasonably priced. Weekends bring more visitors; arrive early or late for the best conditions.
