Hòn Bà

Hòn Bà is a small rocky island a hundred metres off Mũi Nghinh Phong, with a single small pagoda perched on top. At low tide a stone causeway emerges from the sea and you can walk out across the rocks; at high tide the island is cut off.

Check the tide tables and pick a low-tide afternoon — going across at the wrong time can leave you stranded. The pagoda is modest but the position is dramatic, and the walk through the surf and rocks is much of the attraction.

A story
A short tunnel is said to run from beneath the temple down to the sea, used by 19th-century followers to escape French raids. The story is repeated by every guide, and the entrance — if it exists — has never been found.
