Vung Tau Lighthouse

The lighthouse stands on top of Mount Nhỏ, a short scooter ride or longer walk up a winding road from the town centre. The tower itself is closed to visitors, but the terrace around it is open and gives you the best 360-degree view in Vung Tau — both beaches, both mountains, the Christ statue, the offshore islands, and the harbour full of supply vessels.

Best in late afternoon. The same road continues up to the Christ statue if you want to combine both in one outing.

A story
The original lighthouse was built by the French in 1862, making it one of the oldest in Southeast Asia. It was moved to its current spot on Mount Nhỏ in 1913, and a fresh tower was put up in 1911. It is still in working service, helping ships find the channel into the Saigon River.
