Thai Pothong has been a King Street fixture since the early 1990s, back when Newtown's reputation for cheap, good Thai food was first being made. The big, busy dining room turns out a long menu of dependable Thai classics — curries, stir-fries, whole fish — at fair prices, and an attached gift shop sells Thai homewares and crafts. It is not the most adventurous Thai in the city, but it is a reliable, welcoming standby that generations of locals have grown up on.
Service is quick and the room handles large groups well, making it a good-value option before a show at the nearby Enmore Theatre.
