Bicentennial Park

Darwin's main waterfront park on the Esplanade, with sunset views over the Timor Sea

Bicentennial Park runs along Darwin's Esplanade above the harbour, a long strip of tropical parkland with excellent views over the Timor Sea. It is where Darwin comes to walk, jog, and watch the sunset — and the sunsets here are remarkable, the sky often turning deep orange and red across the water.

The park contains a number of memorials, including monuments to the victims of the 1942 Japanese bombing raids. At the northern end, the Stokes Hill Wharf reaches into the harbour — restaurants and bars operate along the wharf, and it is a pleasant place to eat with the water on both sides. The park is also the departure point for Darwin Harbour cruises, which run in the evenings and are worth considering for a different view of the city.
