Charles Darwin National Park

Mangroves, harbour views, and wartime ammunition bunkers near Darwin.

Charles Darwin National Park is a compact reserve on the edge of the city, protecting mangrove flats and woodland above Darwin Harbour. It is close enough for an easy half-day, but it feels noticeably wilder than the waterfront parks in town.

The park's old World War II ammunition bunkers add a historical layer to the bushland. Short trails and lookouts give wide views across the harbour, while the mangrove margins are good for understanding the tidal country that surrounds Darwin.
