Springbrook Research Observatory makes use of the plateau's darker skies, away from the brightest parts of the Gold Coast. It is a small, specialist attraction rather than a casual roadside lookout, with telescope sessions focused on planets, nebulae, star clusters, and the southern sky. On a clear night, it gives Springbrook a very different kind of view from the waterfalls and rainforest tracks.
Because astronomy depends on weather and bookings, do not just turn up and hope. Check session availability, cloud conditions, and access details before committing the evening. It is most worthwhile if you are staying overnight in the hinterland; driving back down the mountain late after a cloudy cancellation is no one's idea of romance.
