Twin Falls Circuit

The Twin Falls Circuit is one of Springbrook's most rewarding walks — a four-kilometre loop through subtropical rainforest that passes two waterfalls and some of the most lush and mossy terrain on the plateau. Allow two to three hours at a comfortable pace. The track runs along the rim of Springbrook Creek canyon before descending to the falls, where a series of cascades tumble through a narrow gorge.

Much of the walk passes beneath overhanging cliffs streaked with seeping water, where mosses, ferns, and filmy ferns grow in dense curtains. The humidity under these overhangs makes the vegetation feel primordial — this is subtropical rainforest in near-perfect condition, part of the same Gondwana Rainforests World Heritage Area that stretches from here to Lamington and the Nightcap Range. Brush turkeys are common on the track, and patient observers may spot pademelons in the shadier sections near the creek.

The circuit can be walked in either direction, though most people find the anti-clockwise route slightly easier given the gradient of the descent to the falls. The track can be muddy after rain; solid shoes rather than sandals are strongly recommended.
