Rockhampton's bar scene is compact but has character. The heritage pubs along Quay Street are the most atmospheric options, with iron lacework verandas and solid colonial interiors that have changed little since the 1880s. The cafe scene has improved noticeably in recent years, with a handful of specialty coffee roasters and good brunch spots concentrated in the inner city.
