The Capricorn Coast around Yeppoon is 45 minutes east — beaches, seafood, and the ferry to Great Keppel Island. The island has snorkelling, walking tracks, and a relaxed atmosphere; the ferry from Rosslyn Bay takes about 30 minutes. Mount Morgan, 38 km southwest, was one of the richest gold and copper mines in the world; the town is now quiet but the heritage buildings from the boom years survive and there is a good museum. The Capricorn Caves are 23 km north and make an easy half-day from Rockhampton.
