Launceston's bar scene is anchored by Boag's Brewery, whose visitor centre and bar on William Street is the obvious start — the draught here is fresher than anywhere else in the country. The CBD has a cluster of good bars around Brisbane and Charles Streets: Elaia, a late-night wine bar, and Saint John on St John Street are both worth finding.
Coffee culture is taken seriously in Launceston. The Novaro Espresso Bar on George Street sets the standard for city-centre espresso. Sweetbrew in City Park is the most pleasant setting for a morning flat white. For something more atmospheric, the basement bar at Metz on George Street has been trading since the 1990s and survives the waves of new competition.
