Getting There

Launceston has its own airport, Launceston Airport (LST), with direct flights from Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane operated by Qantas, Jetstar, and Virgin Australia. The airport is about 15 km south of the city centre; taxis and the SkyBus shuttle make the connection. Driving from Hobart via the Midland Highway takes about two hours on a good road through rolling farmland.

There is no passenger ferry directly to Launceston. The Spirit of Tasmania ferry from Melbourne docks at Devonport, about an hour's drive west — many visitors who make the sea crossing rent a car in Devonport and drive across via the Westbury Road or the more scenic route through the Tamar Valley. Greyhound and Redline coaches connect Launceston to Hobart and Devonport.
