National Automobile Museum of Tasmania

Over 95 privately owned classic cars and motorcycles on rotating display

The National Automobile Museum of Tasmania on Cimitiere Street has a collection of over 95 classic cars and motorcycles on display at any one time, all privately owned, which means the exhibits rotate regularly — repeat visitors are rarely looking at the same collection twice. The vehicles range from pre-war brass-era cars to 1970s muscle cars and rare European rarities.

The collection has included a 1919 Cadillac, a 1930s Bugatti replica, vintage British motorcycles, and early Australian-made cars. The private ownership model keeps the cars in running order — a meaningful distinction from most museum vehicles, which tend to be static. The museum is open daily except Christmas Day, with winter hours from June to August running slightly shorter. Allow two hours.
