Rosebery

West Tasmania mining town beside rainforest walks, waterfalls, and Mount Murchison.

Rosebery is a small mining town in western Tasmania, tucked below Mount Black and surrounded by wet forest, steep roads, and industrial history. The mine still matters here, so the town feels lived-in rather than dressed up for visitors.

The reason to stop is the landscape around it. Montezuma Falls, reached from nearby Williamsford, is one of Tasmania's great short walks. Stitt Falls is almost inside town, and Mount Murchison gives strong walkers a hard, high view over the West Coast Range.

Rosebery is not a soft base. The weather is wet, the roads can be black-ice country in winter, and the town's charm is practical rather than pretty. But if you are already crossing western Tasmania, it is worth more than a fuel stop.
