Sunraysia Wine and Food Trail

Cellar doors, olive groves, and fruit farms around the Mildura district

The Sunraysia district produces a substantial share of Australia's wine grapes, table grapes, citrus, dried fruit, and olives. Most of that produce comes from large commercial operations, but around Mildura there are also smaller cellar doors and farm gates where you can taste and buy direct. The region's wines are not fashionable — the hot climate produces big, full-bodied reds and fortified wines rather than delicate cool-climate styles — but they are honest and often very good value.

A half-day driving loop from Mildura can take in several cellar doors, an olive oil producer, and farm stalls selling whatever is in season: blood oranges in winter, peaches and apricots in summer, table grapes in autumn. The flat roads and open landscape make it easy going. Ask at the Mildura visitor centre for the current trail map.
