Mount Buller

Victorian alpine resort village with winter skiing and summer trails above Mansfield.

Mount Buller is Victoria's easiest alpine escape from Melbourne: a compact mountain village wrapped around ski lifts, snow gums, and broad High Country views. In winter it is all about snow, with the state's largest lift network and a busy day-trip scene. In summer it becomes a cooler mountain playground for hiking, mountain biking, road cycling, and views.

This is still a resort village, so do not come looking for old-town romance. Come because the mountain itself is accessible and fun. The summit gives the big panorama, the National Alpine Museum adds context, and the trails and bike routes make it more than a winter-only place.

Mount Buller works as a long day from Melbourne if you start early, but it is better paired with Mansfield or the wider High Country. Weather changes quickly, and winter access rules can be strict, so check road, snow-chain, and lift conditions before you drive up.
