Tuart Forest National Park

The last large stand of pure tuart forest in the world

Tuart (Eucalyptus gomphocephala) grows only in a 200-kilometre strip of the south-west, and Tuart Forest National Park — 15 minutes drive north-east of Busselton — preserves the largest remaining pure stand in the world. The trees are tall, smooth-trunked, and irregularly spaced over a grassy understorey, more like English parkland than typical Australian bush.

The Tuart Drive scenic road runs through the heart of the park; the Wonnerup Loop trail (6 km) is the most rewarding walk. Look for ringtail possums in the canopy at dusk and the western brushtail possum, which is found nowhere else in the world.
