The classic Busselton holiday is the long Christmas–January summer break, when the foreshore fills up with Perth families and accommodation prices double. The water is warm (around 22°C), the days are dry, and the sea breeze drops in punctually each afternoon. March and April are the connoisseurs' months: the school holidays end, the weather stays warm, and the wineries an hour south are crushing fruit.
Winter (June to August) brings rain, wind, and a deeply unfashionable but very pleasant kind of solitude — the kind of weather where the cafes have working fires and the bird counts at Vasse-Wonnerup peak. The Iron Man Western Australia triathlon in December and Cinefest Oz film festival in late August are the town's two big events.
