The Holy Cross Cathedral is the Roman Catholic cathedral of the Archdiocese of Honiara, located east of the city centre. It is one of the more architecturally interesting buildings in Honiara — a substantial concrete structure whose interior incorporates traditional Melanesian carving and decoration alongside conventional Catholic iconography.
Services are held regularly and visitors are welcome outside service times. The cathedral grounds are peaceful — a contrast to the chaotic streets just outside. It is worth combining with a walk through the surrounding neighbourhood, which gives a better sense of everyday Honiara than the main commercial strip on Mendana Avenue.
