When to Go

Krujë is pleasant any time of year apart from the deep winter, when sleet and fog can roll up the mountain. April-June and September-October are the best months — mild, clear, and the surrounding hills are green or red. Summer is hot on the coast below but Krujë's 600-metre altitude keeps it cooler. Winter can be cold, with occasional snow on the castle walls; some of the smaller museums close.

The local festival of Skanderbeg Day on 17 January marks the death of the national hero, and the castle hosts ceremonies. National Day (28 November) and Liberation Day (29 November) are also widely celebrated.
