Shkodër's old bazaar (Çarshia e Vjetër) stretches back from the pedestrianised main street into a maze of lanes where artisans, coffee shops, and small family businesses occupy 19th-century stone buildings. It is not as intact as the bazaars of Kosovo or North Macedonia, but it retains a genuine commercial life — this is where locals come to buy things, not primarily a tourist attraction.
The areas around Rruga Kolë Idromeno are the most characterful. The street has been pedestrianised and is lined with cafes, but step back a block in either direction and you're in the working city. Shkodërs have a lively cafe culture and the old city is full of people sitting and talking at almost any hour of the day.
