Communist-Era Statues (National Gallery Backyard)

Behind the National Gallery of Fine Arts, in a small fenced courtyard, the surviving bronzes of Lenin, Stalin, and Enver Hoxha lie roughly stacked against a wall — defaced, missing arms or noses, occasionally vandalised again by new graffiti. It is one of the strangest open-air sculpture parks in Europe, and gets a quick visit on the way into or out of the gallery.

Five minutes. The contrast with what the museum itself displays inside is the whole point.

A story
When the dictatorship collapsed in 1991 the city's bronze statues of Stalin, Lenin, and Hoxha were pulled off their pedestals by demonstrators and thrown together in this small back lot. They have stayed there ever since — not destroyed, not restored, just retired.
