Gyumri's restaurant scene is modest but genuine. The city has a few places that have earned reputations beyond Armenia's borders, most notably Poloz Mukuch, but the majority of the best eating happens in small local places that serve Armenian standards — khorovats, tolma, lavash, and dairy-heavy dishes that reflect the agricultural tradition of the Shirak plateau. Prices are very low by any European standard.
