Baden's outdoor thermal baths — the Thermalstrandbad — make a compelling reason to visit in the warmer months. The complex is fed by the town's sulphur springs, which have been in use since Roman times, and consists of a large outdoor pool and several smaller ones at varying temperatures, all with the faint sulphur smell that is part of the Baden spa experience.
The setting is park-like, with green lawns and sunbathing areas around the pools, and a distinct 1930s atmosphere from the original facilities. At weekends in summer the baths fill with Viennese day-trippers, which can make it crowded but also lively. The season runs roughly from May to September; opening hours and exact prices change annually, so check ahead. There is also a separate indoor wellness facility for year-round use.
