The Waldbachstrub is a 90-metre waterfall in the Echerntal, the steep glacial valley running south from the village towards the Dachstein. The flat valley-floor path leads in about an hour from the south end of the village, past several smaller cascades and through deep beech and spruce forest. The Echerntal is a Geopark with information boards explaining the glacial geology — the U-shaped profile is textbook, and the boulders strewn down the valley were dropped here as the last glacier retreated.
In spring, with the snowmelt at full force, the waterfall is loud enough to drown conversation; in late summer it shrinks to a thin ribbon but the surrounding rock theatre is still impressive. The walk is mostly level and suitable for families; experienced walkers can continue from the falls up the steep Gosauzwang path towards the Wiesberghaus mountain hut.
