The Skywalk is a steel platform jutting twelve metres out into thin air over the village, 360 metres above the lake. It sits at the top of the Salzberg funicular and is free to visit if you have a mine ticket, or accessible separately with a funicular-only fare.
The view down onto the village rooftops, along the length of the Hallstätter See and across to the snow-streaked Dachstein massif is the best in the area. The platform has a small cafe and is wheelchair-accessible from the funicular top station. Go at sunrise on a clear morning for the kind of photograph that justifies the trip up — and if you do not want to take the funicular back, there is a steep but pleasant 45-minute path down through the woods.
