Hechtsee

The Hechtsee is a small natural lake about three kilometres north of the Kufstein old town, set in a shallow forest basin at the foot of the Thierberg hill. It is the warmest lake in North Tyrol in summer — the water typically reaches 24–26°C by July — and is a popular swimming spot for locals. Entrance to the bathing area is free and facilities are basic: a grassy bank, a jetty, and a refreshment kiosk.

The walk to the Hechtsee from the town centre takes about 45 minutes and passes through the northern residential districts before entering the woods. A cycle route also connects it to the Inn valley path. The lake is small enough that you can walk the perimeter in twenty minutes, and the forest setting makes it noticeably cooler and quieter than the town on hot summer days.
