The Akademietheater is the smaller stage of Vienna's Burgtheater ensemble, built just before the First World War by Fellner und Hellmer and Ludwig Baumann. It is less grand than the main Burgtheater, but that is part of the appeal: a handsome, central theatre where serious German-language drama feels close rather than ceremonial.
