Botanischer Garten

Vienna's Botanischer Garten was founded in 1754 by Empress Maria Theresa as a medicinal plant garden and is now maintained by the University of Vienna. It sits beside the Belvedere area, which makes it easy to fold into a wider walk through Landstrasse.

The garden is strongest for plant lovers, with rare species, alpine plants, and a calmer mood than the palace grounds next door. It is a good breather when central Vienna starts to feel too formal.
