The Hofburg Palace is a massive complex that was once the seat of the Habsburg dynasty and the Emperor of Austria until 1918. The complex was expanded numerous times; its earliest origins date to the 13th century. It now houses various museums, the Imperial Treasury with the Habsburg Crown Jewels, the Burgkapelle chapel, the Austrian National Library, and the world-famous Spanish Riding School. Note that there are no Lipizzaner performances in August, as the stallions move to the breeding facility during summer months.
