Naschmarkt

Vienna's biggest and best-known market, running along the buried Wien river south-west of the centre. The Naschmarkt has been here since the 16th century and stretches for around 1.5 kilometres along Linke and Rechte Wienzeile. Stalls sell fresh fruit, vegetables, cheeses, olives, Middle Eastern specialities, fish, and flowers. The Turkish and Balkan immigrant communities are well represented; the city's best halva and stuffed vine leaves are here.

Tucked among the stalls are several dozen restaurants and bars, ranging from the famous (Neni for modern Middle Eastern, NaschMarkt Deli for breakfast) to the casual. Saturday morning brings a flea market at the far west end with vinyl, junk, and the occasional treasure. Closed Sundays. U-Bahn: Kettenbrückengasse or Karlsplatz.
