The defining street of Neubau and the best place in Vienna for shopping that isn't chains. Running south from Mariahilfer Straße, Neubaugasse is lined with concept stores, independent fashion labels, vintage and second-hand dealers, record shops, design studios and small galleries, interspersed with cafés to break up the browsing.
It is the antidote to the big high-street drag a block away: idiosyncratic, locally owned and constantly turning over. On selected Saturdays the street is closed to cars for a market and flea-market day. Come to wander rather than with a list — the finds are the point.
