Türkenschanzpark is a broad, leafy park in Vienna's outer west, opened by Emperor Franz Joseph in 1888. Its name recalls the Turkish entrenchments from the 1529 siege, though today the mood is all ponds, lawns, winding paths, and a quiet escape from the denser inner districts.
Come here when you want a local Vienna park rather than another imperial showpiece. It works well with a wander through Währing or a visit to the nearby university quarter, especially in good weather.
