A tiny medieval town on the west bank of the Meuse, opposite the northern edge of Dinant. Bouvignes was a rival of Dinant in the Middle Ages, twinned by intense commercial competition and the occasional war; its surviving 13th-century Maison Espagnole and 14th-century Crèvecœur Castle (now a ruin on the hill above) are reminders.
The town is quiet, walkable in 30 minutes, and offers excellent views back across the river to Dinant's citadel and Notre-Dame spire. The Maison du Patrimoine Médiéval Mosan in the centre runs interpretive exhibits about the medieval Meuse valley. Easily reached on foot from Dinant by crossing the Charles de Gaulle bridge and walking 15 minutes north along the quay.
