Dinant is a fine base for exploring the Meuse valley and the western Ardennes. Within 15 km: the Château de Vêves at Celles, the water gardens at Annevoie, and the picturesque ruined Château de Walzin on the Lesse. The historic city of Namur, capital of Wallonia, is a 30-minute train ride north and worth a day on its own. Han-sur-Lesse, with its famous show cave reached by underground tram, is 45 minutes by car. Cross the French border at Givet for a contrasting French Meuse town in under an hour.
