Eating Out

The waterfront along the Meuse has a row of restaurants and brasseries serving standard Belgian fare — moules-frites, carbonnade flamande, and waffles. Several offer river views from terraces in summer. For something more specifically local, look out for flamiche (a savoury cheese tart from the Dinant area, served warm), escavèche (cold fried river fish in a marinade), and bisque d'écrevisses (crayfish bisque) on local menus.

Dinant is also known for its couques — hard honey biscuits pressed into elaborate decorative moulds — sold in bakeries along Rue Grande. They are meant to be sucked rather than bitten; chewing one is reputed to be how to break a tooth in Dinant.
