Bars and Cafes

For its size, Namur has a serious beer culture. Belgium's national love of brewing comes together here with a Walloon affection for cellar pubs and small intimate cafés.

Le Chapitre on Rue du Séminaire is the classic beer bar — long lists of Trappists and lambics, knowledgeable staff, and a quiet atmosphere good for actually talking. Henry's Café on Rue Saint-Loup pulls in a lively student crowd. The streets around Place Maurice Servais become a single open-air bar on summer evenings, with tables spilling onto the cobbles.

For coffee, try Le Temps des Cerises in the old centre — bright, friendly, with good cake. The Brasserie François, across from the cathedral, is the long-standing Namurois meeting place: a glass of Leffe at the bar, plate of charcuterie, watching the world go by.
