Day Trips

Namur is the natural base for exploring the Meuse valley and the western Ardennes. The trains and buses out of town will take you to most of the good day-trip destinations in under an hour.

Dinant — half an hour upriver, dramatic citadel above the Meuse, birthplace of Adolphe Sax, gingerbread cookies, and a fine boat ride if you have the time.

Huy — half an hour downriver, with its own collegial church and citadel.

Durbuy — further into the Ardennes, marketed as the smallest city in the world and quite pretty if you can get there before the tour buses.

Cyclists should consider following the RAVeL towpath along the Meuse — much of the route is flat, beautifully scenic, and runs through villages worth stopping in.
