The Beguinage of Sint-Truiden is one of the town's most atmospheric historic corners, a reminder of the semi-monastic communities of lay religious women that once dotted Flanders. Its scale is modest, but the lanes, whitewashed houses, and church create a pocket of calm away from the commercial centre.
Do not come expecting a grand museum set-piece. The pleasure is in walking slowly and reading the layout: simple houses around a shared religious and social life, close enough to town to be practical but separate enough to feel protected. It is a good counterpoint to Sint-Truiden's abbey remains and market square.
