Kraljevica's main use is as a base for the surrounding Kvarner. Rijeka is a 25-minute drive northwest along the coast; Opatija and the Riviera villages beyond it are a little further in the same direction. The island of Krk is just south across the bridge, with the airport, the towns of Krk and Baška, and the steep east coast all within an hour. Heading southeast along the coast, Crikvenica is 15 km away — a larger resort town with a sandy beach and a more developed promenade, good for a half-day contrast to quiet Kraljevica. The Vinodol valley behind Crikvenica is worth a detour for the medieval Vinodol Law monument and the village of Novi Vinodolski.
