Punat is a small fishing village tucked into a sheltered bay on the southern side of Krk Island. It is quieter than the island's main town and popular with sailors — the marina is one of the largest in the Adriatic.
The highlight is a short boat ride away: the tiny island of Košljun sits in the middle of Punat Bay and is home to a Franciscan monastery that has been here since the fifteenth century. The monks maintain a small museum with folk costumes and religious art, and the island itself is a nature reserve thick with Mediterranean vegetation. Water taxis run from the harbour throughout the day.
