Vinkovci is deep Slavonian country, and the food reflects it: grilled meats, paprika-heavy stews, freshwater fish, and above all kulen — the cured sausage that defines this region's cuisine. Local wines from the Kutjevo and Ilok appellations are widely available and excellent value.
Look for restaurants serving čobanac (a spiced meat stew), fiš paprikaš (freshwater fish paprikash, usually carp or catfish), and home-cured meats with pickled vegetables. The market on Trg bana Šokčevića is worth a visit for local produce.
