Vinkovci's appeal is modest but genuine. The town centre is compact, walkable, and centred on the Duga ulica — the long street that forms the main promenade. The riverside park along the Bosut is pleasant on summer evenings. The real draw for curious visitors is the archaeology: this is one of the oldest continuously inhabited sites in Europe, and the finds from the surrounding area tell an 8,000-year story.
The Vinkovačke Jeseni festival in September brings folk ensembles from across Slavonia and beyond, and the town fills with embroidered costumes, tamburica music, and the smell of roasting kulen. It is worth timing a visit around if you are anywhere in the region.
