Slavonia has a continental climate with hot summers and cold winters. The best time to visit is late spring (May–June) or early autumn — September is particularly good because it coincides with the Vinkovačke Jeseni festival, the town's biggest annual event.
Summer temperatures regularly exceed 35°C, and the flat landscape offers no relief from the heat. Winter brings genuine cold, with temperatures dropping below freezing and occasional snow. Spring and autumn bring pleasant walking weather and the bonus of the local harvest: autumn is truffle season in nearby Slavonian forests, and local markets fill with seasonal produce.
