The Gradski Muzej Vinkovci occupies a handsome building near the main square and covers the remarkable depth of human habitation in the Vinkovci area. Neolithic settlement here dates to around 6200 BC, and the museum moves through Bronze Age, Iron Age, Roman, and medieval periods in a coherent, if not lavishly funded, display.
The archaeological collection is the centrepiece. The Roman city of Cibalae stood on this ground, and finds include coins, jewellery, lamps, and everyday objects from a prosperous provincial town. The Vinkovci Treasure — a hoard of late Roman silver plate discovered in 2012 — includes some exceptional pieces. The ethnographic rooms show Slavonian folk costume, embroidery, and household objects from the nineteenth century.
