Hidden behind a 19th-century building on Ilica, Swanky Monkey is a long courtyard garden — once part of a textile factory — converted into a hostel and bar with hammocks, mismatched chairs, ivy on the walls, and a wood-fired pizza oven. It is a young, scruffy, easy-going place; not the city's prettiest bar, but one of its most enjoyable.
Beer and cocktails are inexpensive by central-Zagreb standards, the food is straightforward (pizza, burgers, salads), and there is live music or a DJ several nights a week. Open from afternoon until late; in summer the garden carries the evening, in winter the indoor bar takes over.
